Superman: Man Of Steel Villain Announced
The rumors have come and gone. First Viggo Mortensen was reported to be playing Zod in Superman: Man of Steel and then it was Edgar Ramirez. Then, for a moment, we thought that maybe they would scrap Zod and use a different villain.
Now we know for sure who Superman will be squaring off against in the reboot. It will be Zod and he will be played by Michael Shannon (The Runaways). Shannon is an exceptional actor and will fit in nicely with Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent).
If it has to be Zod, I’m cool with Michael Shannon.
I just wish it wasn’t Zod, but at least it’s not Lex Luther. Superman has so many worthy adversaries, including Brainiac, Darkseid and Doomsday. Any of these characters would be preferable to Zod since it’s already been done before in Superman 2. Of course they may just use Zod for the first movie in the reboot series and add more enemies later.
I am not against them using Luther either, just not as a stand alone bad guy. He needs to be the guy who gets in bed with one of the super enemies. By himself he doesn’t stand a chance against Superman and I’m getting sick of the same old story of Luther using Kryptonite to bring the Man of Steel down to his level.
Now that the cast is essentially set, hopefully the next rumors that come down the line will have to do with the script. However, considering that Christopher Nolan is producing Superman: Man of Steel, we may not actually get much information of plot before the film is released. Nolan seems to be an expert at keeping movie details a secret (see The Dark Knight Rises).
